The composing pianists Tom Blankenberg (this year's Förderpreisträger Musik der Stadt Düsseldorf) and Raffael Seyfried plan their joint festival appearance as a vital new start. Seyfried explores the dynamic processes of acoustic and electronic material, the interactions of piano and modular synthesizer moving free of the constraints of any particular genre. Of Tom Blankenberg's music, a British music critic wrote that it sounds "as if Bill Evans were communicating with Arvo Pärt." Blankenberg's piano monologues are little stories from the vocabulary of classical, jazz, avant-garde, minimal music and ambient.
