I was delighted to have contributed to this series with the track “iteration”. I’ve been a fan of the tone science series and so I was very excited to be featured on this, especially in such great company.
Iterations is a study in a technique that I’ve been playing around with on some of my tracks. I recorded a very simple piano loop (just three notes) onto tape and made a loop. Then I played back this loop at three different speed settings, all one octave apart creating this almost canonic feel. I took the same loop and processed it with the modular in various ways creating a very texture rich track. For the second part I recorded the main structure with the piano, because I got sort of stuck writing on the modular alone. I then took everything I recorded, transcribed it and arranged it for different synthesizer voices.
It was a really great experience writing this track and working with Ian Boddy from DiN.
